The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences that make these aspects of the discipline accessible and meaningful for learners.

This artifact is a reading study that was done between a high school student and a college ELA professor. The purpose of the reading study was to see the different strategies that readers use when they are novices and when they are masters in the subject. To help make students better readers, as a teacher I need to teach them how to be a master at reading ELA text and stories. I chose this Maine Teaching Standard to represent the reading study because I can create learning experiences that will make the students better readers and maybe masters of ELA.

The reading study will help me as a future teacher because I can start to understand the differences between novices and masters of the subject. As someone who will have to teach my mastery to novices, it is essential to know how students use their own reading strategies compared to my own. To teach my skills to students is necessary to make them better readers and help them hopefully become masters.
